Memory Support Service

Peacock Unit

This area provides accommodation and memory support for people living with dementia who can no longer live safely at home and require a secure environment to prevent wandering. Inside the keypad entry, the Unit is open and people can move freely about. There is a beautiful sensory garden courtyard and a back garden with hen house and resident dog Elsie. All of the rooms are single rooms with en-suite.

This is a small community, with a maximum of eighteen residents. This helps reduce stress and gives staff more opportunity to engage with residents in a therapeutic manner. Memory support is provided with short activities and interactions, and residents have access to activities, both specially designed for people living with dementia, and mainstream activities. Staff receive training and support in minimising the impact of behaviours on others.

Persons holding a current dementia specific Aged Care Assessment approval are eligible for this type of care.

Applications are taken throughout the year and waiting lists are kept in accordance with legislation.
